Join Family in New Zealand
One of the most common questions we get when people enquire about moving to New Zealand is can I bring my parents. The short answer is yes and no.
All UK citizen passport holders are allowed to enter and live in New Zealand for up to 6 months at a time in every 12 months. No other country has this benefit. Once the 6-month period has elapsed you can request an extension of another three months but this increases the amount of time you have to remain outside the country.
Until very recently people who have held New Zealand Residency for at least three years have been eligible to sponsor their parents subject to financial, health and character requirements, however, this category is currently closed to new applicants. We expect the new government to make a policy announcement shortly as to the future of the category.
Parent and Grandparent Retirement Category
While not a permanent solution, New Zealand does have the Parent and Grandparent Retirement Category which allows parent and grandparents of New Zealand residents to remain in New Zealand as long as they meet certain financial requirements.
